8 And he saith unto the Lord: I saw the finger of the Lord, and I feared lest he should smite me; for I knew not that the Lord had flesh and blood.
9 And the Lord said unto him: Because of thy faith thou hast seen that I shall take upon me flesh and blood; and never has man come before me with such exceeding faith as thou hast; for were it not so ye could not have seen my finger. Sawest thou more than this?
The knowledge that God is an embodied one is one of the most profound and startling doctrines of the restoration. The Brother of Jared is shocked to learn that the God of the universe resembles a human being. He had such great faith and had never fully understood that divine truth.
On the other hand, I think we have perhaps become too complacent with that truth. We are so used to it, that we don’t realize the incredible implications. The being that created vast universes resembles us. He can converse with us. We can see him with our (transfigured) eyes. If we have faith, we can see him as he truly is. That is a startling and profound proposition.
