8 And now, my beloved brethren, I perceive that ye ponder still in your hearts; and it grieveth me that I must speak concerning this thing. For if ye would hearken unto the Spirit which teacheth a man to pray, ye would know that ye must pray; for the evil spirit teacheth not a man to pray, but teacheth him that he must not pray.
**Spoiler alert** My general conference odyessey post for this week which will be up tomorrow involves a talk by Spencer W. Kimball where he speaks about communication lines being down. Rereading this verse today reminded me that President Kimball notes that one of the first signs of spiritual decay is a failure to regularly pray and commune with our father in heaven. It’s no wonder than that the evil spirit loves to suggest to man that they should not pray. Prayer is our early immune response against wickedness and against going astray. If we fail to pray, it is like lowering our defenses and allowing Satan and his minions to enter into our heart. And so there is no wonder that the Holy Ghost teaches that we should pray always.
