14 Awake! and arise from the dust, and hear the words of a trembling parent, whose limbs ye must soon lay down in the cold and silent grave, from whence no traveler can return; a few more days and I go the way of all the earth.
15 But behold, the Lord hath redeemed my soul from hell; I have beheld his glory, and I am encircled about eternally in the arms of his love.
I love Lehi’s powerful declaration of faith in his Redeemer. So far, most of the testimony in the Book of Mormon has come through Nephi’s teaching and preaching, and so it is nice to see this testimony from Lehi. And of course, this testimony leads to Lehi’s crowning testimony of the savior in the following chapter.
But I love how personal this testimony is. As with his dream, Lehi’s testimony and prophecy is mostly applied at the personal and familial level. He powerfully uses the comfort and assurance he feels in order to encourage his family to find faith in Christ. He is the ultimate loving patriarch. Lehi to the very end never lost sight of the things that mattered most 1) the savior and 2) his family.
